Sidney Stringer Academy Is Now Officially Open

The Academy opened its doors for students today (Thursday 2nd September 2010) for the very first time. Year 9 and 7 students were welcomed on site by the staff and took part in special celebration assemblies. The students looked very smart in their new uniforms of Blazers and ties. Students joined their new house groups and the year 9 students helped the New Year 7 students to find their way round and took part in an exciting treasure hunt.

The special assemblies were attended by local councilors and sponsors from the Local authority, City College and Coventry University. Darren Gasgoine, former heavyweight boxer was the guest speaker and engaged students with stories about his career. Head Boy Tallah Akim and Head Girl Amy Sutton also spoke about their new roles and their commitment to the academy.

Stringer Students Win First Place

Students from Sidney Stringer continue to be successful as they demonstrated this month through their participation in the Innovation University Enterprise Network competition sponsored by BT and CISCO. They beat off strong competition from other schools, including Caludon Castle, Coundon Court, Stoke Park and Bablake to win the Collaboration Award and Best Presentation Award. Their presentation was on the support our school has given to our chosen charity – a school and disabled group in Kenya.

The students also appeared in the Coventry Evening Telegraph on the 12th July 2010 for their achievement, a copy of the article can be found amongst the pictures opposite.

Stringer Ski Trip 2011

The Sidney Stringer PE Department are busy planning an exciting Ski Trip to Spiazzi, Italy during the February half term of 2011. A group of 40 pupils and 5 members of staff will be travelling by coach to the resort on Friday 18th February and Returning on Saturday 26th. The trip should cost £669 per pupil, but in order to reduce the cost to £549, the PE Department are planning to raise over £5000 through a variety of fundraising activities.

There are huge benefits to children partaking in school ski trips! Not only do they get to visit beautiful ski resorts, they can also benefit from the exercise, the challenges of learning a new sport, confidence building, teamwork and motivation. This trip may also be many students’ first trip abroad and a chance for them to soak up a life-building experience alongside their peers.

In terms of educational benefits a school ski trip will provide opportunities for informal learning through play, develop skills and independence in a widening range of environments and most importantly stimulate, inspire and improve motivation. We believe that this will be an unforgettable experience!

We at Sidney Stringer know how supportive parents and the local community can be and would greatly appreciate any donations/ support and/ or fundraising ideas! If you are interested in supporting us, you can contact me via telephone on 02476251756 or by emailing me at

Thanks, Miss Horan (PE DEPARTMENT)
