TALENTED Coventry violin player Yu-mien Sun has just played her first two concerts with the National Youth Orchestra.
The 17-year-old joined 169 other musicians from around the country for a concert at London’s Barbican broadcast on Radio 3.
She was also part of the orchestra for a concert at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool. During two auditions playing Dvorak and Mendelssohn, she impressed orchestra leaders so much they made her co- principal of the second violin section. She said:
“I started playing the violin when I was six so I’ve been playing it for 10 years and a bit. Before that I played the piano. I’ve wanted to be a musician since I was little, definitely a violinist. The first audition was quite easy as it was playing solos but the second round was playing in an ensemble which was harder.
“I did feel nervous for the first concerts but now I feel really con- fident. Playing a solo performance."
