Welcome from the Headteacher

 

Welcome to our Sixth Form. We are now one of the biggest post 16 providers in the city and we are very proud of our provision. Students who study with us make outstanding progress and results at Post 16 are consistently good.  We are able to offer a wide range of courses taught by excellent staff.  Ofsted in 2013 judged that we were outstanding in every category and Sidney Stringer is one of the top schools in the country for student progress.  Students in our Sixth Form have excellent pastoral support, opportunities for numerous extra- curricular activities, as well as high quality career guidance in preparation for life after Post 16. We also offer exciting opportunities for student leadership with Prefect and Head Boy/ Girl roles. We are one of the leaders in using technology to support your learning with opportunities to purchase iPads at a reduced cost. In September 2018 we will opening our new 16+ Centre, which will be built over the visitors’ car-park. It will contain 2 classrooms for exclusive 16+ lessons, state of the art IT, a common area for working, socialising and assemblies plus its own catering facilities.  “As KS4 begins to draw to end, you must now consider the next stage of your education and what will best suit you and your learning. Should you choose to study in 16+ at Sidney Stringer Academy, you will receive a warm welcome from a team of teachers, tutors and support staff committed to ensuring that procedures are in place for you to achieve to your full potential. Outside of lessons, our aim is to equip you with transferable skills which will put you in the best position to move onto the next stage of your life. We do this by encouraging you to participate in activities such as university Master Classes, work experience placements, volunteering, The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, residential experiences, university Summer Schools and much more. If you are waiting for your potential to be unlocked and developed, then you should look no further than our wonderful Academy!

Personal tutors

 

All 16+ students have a personal tutor who they meet with regularly for mentoring sessions and group tutorials.  16+ tutors are there to help 16+ students to plan individual course programmes, to support them through their courses, to monitor their progress and to encourage independent study habits.
