Welcome

A warm welcome to all of our new Year 7 students who have been allocated a place here at Sidney Stringer Academy and to your parents/carers. In this section, there are videos to help introduce you to some key people and to help answer any initial questions you may have.

Further information will be sent out to you by email and post to the addresses used on your applications. If you have any further questions after you receive these, please get in touch using transition@sidneystringeracademy.org.uk

Parents and carers, we look forward to meeting you on our Induction Evening on June 18th and students we look forward to meeting you on our 3 day transition days [July 1st-3rd].

2026 Year 7 Students and Mobile Phones

From September 2026, we will not be allowing our new Year 7 students to bring smart phones into school at all. The only acceptable phones for new Year 7 students to bring with them will be one of the basic feature ‘brick’ phones eg:

Nokia 105/106

Alcatel 3080

Nokia 3210

Nokia 2660

This decision is driven by our commitment to enhancing your child’s education and well-being, based on compelling evidence. Smart phones are a major distraction, impacting learning and student outcomes. By removing them, we aim for improved academic focus and reduced staff workload from managing phone-related issues. This policy also supports student well-being, as research links phone use to increased anxiety and reduced social interaction. Our approach aligns with recent government recommendations and leverages our school’s existing Chromebook technology, making personal phones unnecessary for learning.
